Play Chess Grandmaster online for free. Chess Grandmaster is a free online virtual chess board for experienced players. In addition to offering 3 unique difficulty levels it also allows instant access to over 1,000 unique historical board scenarios where you can check the opponent in 2, 3 or 4 moves. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

The opening screen gives you two different game options. You can play a “Quick Match against the computer opponent or you can play Puzzles, which are pre-configured challenges.
If you choose Quick Match, you are given the options of Easy, Medium and Hard. You can also choose your color. White moves first. Click or tap the Start button to begin.
If you choose Puzzles, you attempt to Checkmate your opponent within 2, 3 or 4 moves. You are presented with hundreds of puzzles to work through. Work your way through the puzzles to improve your game.
Game Controls
- Playing
  - To play Quick Match, click or tap on a piece. The computer will highlight possible moves with lit squares. Click or tap on the lit square to move your piece.
  - To play Puzzles, click on the number of moves you want to try. These are the maximum number of moves you’re allowed before the game is either won or ends. Tap a number, then tap a puzzle. Puzzles that you’ve previously attempted will be highlighted with a circle.
  - Scoring
    - You win by trapping the opponents King. In Puzzles mode, you need to win within the prescribed number of moves.
